April 7, 2012–(Kassala, Girifna) The citizens of Kassala were in a state of fear on Saturday night as a result of heavy shooting in the central part of the city before it turned out to be a military parade by the army.

The people of Kassala denounced the live fire in their city and were surprised that the try-out for the military parade took place in a crowded civilian area.

It should be noted that the main military base for the national army is in the middle of the city and occupies a large plot of land and its situation has caused a number of problems when a number of artillery explosions took place. The base was targeted by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM ) in the year 2000 and tens of civilians were killed in the crossfire.

Also, the movement of tanks and arms from and to the base causes a lot of tension and fear to families living nearby. Citizens have asked for a relocation of the base, but this was never part of the government agenda.

سادت حالة من الرعب مواطني مدينة كسلا مساء السبت بسبب إطلاق نار كثيف وسط المدينة تبين فيما بعد أنه إستعراض عسكري وإستعدادات يقوم بها الجيش.

واستنكر مواطني المدينة إطلاق الرصاص وسط مدينتهم وبث الرعب وسط الاسر، وابدوا دهشتهم “لإجراء بروفات عسكرية في منطقة إزدحام مدني”.

جدير بالذكر ان القاعدة العسكرية الرئيسية للجيش تقع وسط المدينة وتحتل مساحةً شاسعة فيها، وتسبب هذا الموقع في متاعب ومشكلات عديدة للاهالي بسبب انفجار دانات وذخائر اكثر من مرة، واستهداف القاعدة بواسطة قوات الحركة الشعبية منتصف العام 2000 ومصرع عشرات المواطنين في ذلك الحدث، كما تؤدي حركة الآليات العسكرية الثقيلة من وإلي القاعدة لحالة توتر ورعب للاسر القاطنة بجوارها. وطالب الاهالي في مناسبات عديدة لترحيلها غير أن الامر لم يوضع في اجندة البحث الحكومية.
