من نحن: (( مجموعة من أبناء هذا الوطن نرفض الأوضاع المعيشية و الإنسانية في ظل نظام المؤتمر الوطني و حالة الجمود في الحياة السودانية و رفض اليأس و الإستسلام للأوضاع الحالية منتقلين من حالة رد الفعل إلى المبادرة بالفعل الواعي الذي يؤسس لواقع أفضل مع الأخذ بالأعتبار تنوع المشارب الفكرية و النظرية و السياسية لكل أعضاء قِرفنا يجمعنا التوحد حول قضايا محددة و التوافق بعقد إجتماعي و أجندة وطنية نعمل من أجل تجاوز الأيدلوجيات و ما أحوج الواقع السياسي للبلاد للتوافق الديمقراطي حول القضايا العامة و توحيد الجهود حولها ؛ تم التأكيد أيضاً لضرورة العمل السلمي كطريق للوصول لأهداف الحركة إضافةً لما سبق دار نقاش كبير حول آليات عمل حركة قِرفنا المباشرة و الغير مباشرة منها وتم طرح عدد من الايات التي تساعد في تنفيذ برامج قِرفنا بما  يفيد في توصيل الرسائل المراد طرحها للجمهور بشكل يساعد في التفاعل و الإلتفاف حول الحركة و القضايا المطروحة للتغيير . وتم التأكيد على الإهتمام بكادر الحركة من نواحي تأهيلية و تنظيمية و تثقيفية بأعتبار كادر الحركة رأس الرمح في عملية التغير)) .

من اين اتينا: حركة قرفنا هي حركة مقاومة شعبية سلمية لامركزية تشكلت عام 2009 في 30 أكتوبر و كانت نابعة من طلاب جامعيين يرغبون في تغير واقع بلادهم و الأخذ بزمام المبادرة و بالفعل إنطلق شباب قرفنا في يوم 31 أكتوبر يوزعون المنشورات التي تحث المواطنين على التسجيل لكي ما يصوتوا في الإنتخابات ، لقد كان يوم 14 مايو 2010 يوم تاريخي في حركة قرفنا حيث إلتقى بعض الناشطين فيها و تم تحديد معالم رئيسيه في حركتنا الوليده.

“A Non-Violent Resistance Movement to over-through the NCP”  We are all Girifna, We are all Sudan.

History

On October 30 of 2009, three university students gathered in Omdurman, Sudan and discussed the creation of a pro-democracy movement that could unite Sudanese people and the opposition parties to defeat the National Congress Party (NCP) in the 2010 general election. The idea of challenging the ruling party was a dangerous and daring endeavor in a country where any and all opposition had historically been brutally crushed, yet their compassion for a free Sudan was unyielding. These university students decided to call this new movement Girifna, defined as “we are fed-up.” In fact, these students, and a large number of their countrymen were indeed fed-up with war, corruption, dictatorship, injustice, and discrimination against minorities. In response to the bleak reality for Sudanese and the fate of their country, a non-violent resistance movement was born that could change the course of Sudan.

In a defiant move, Girifna members took their message to the street, local markets, schools, and other events in almost every major city of Sudan. The goal was simple, defeat the NCP in the national election. Understanding the NCP would use any means possible to prevent defeat, Girifna encouraged every Sudanese opposition party to unite their efforts to achieve the same goal of ending the reign of the NCP.

Unfortunately, a majority of the major opposition parties had eventually decided not to challenge the NCP and run in the national election. Despite this development, the NCP had still perpetrated election fraud leading to a self-proclaimed victory. It was a moment of grave disappointment to Girifna members, many of whom had endured harassment, arrest, and torture in their efforts to defeat the NCP. Ultimately, Girifna members realized that their goal of liberating the people of Sudan from a brutal dictatorship and restoring democracy in Sudan would be a heavy burden, one that which they were willing to endure.

After the national election, Sudanese security police escalated their harassment of Girifna in an effort to dismantle the movement. The NCP detained Girifna members, confiscated printing materials, and engaged in sexual harassment, and in one particular case gang rapped Girifna member, Safia Ishag. As a result, many Girifna members fled Sudan to escape harassment and assault by NCP security forces.

Mission

Girifna is a grassroots movement that is motivated by the nonviolent direct action ideals of Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and other non-violent and peaceful uprisings throughout the world. Girifna believes that the overthrow of the NCP regime by violence or war would lead to a new and equally destructive dictatorship. Girifna also believes that positive change can only be achieved if Sudanese join together to fight for civil rights, women’s rights, freedom of the press, and religious freedom. In fighting for these rights, a strong grassroots civil society can be formed, and safeguard these new freedoms and a democratic Sudan.

Girifna headquarters are located in Khartoum, with a strong presence throughout various regions of Sudan, and also within the diaspora community. Girifna membership is diverse and is comprised of a wide range of ages, and ethnic and religious backgrounds. Girifna is neutral in its relationships or support of political opposition parties, and has members from all the major parties in Sudan. Girifna does not accept donations or financial support from foreign countries or governments. All contributions to Girifna have been through individuals.

Since the beginning of the movement, Girifna has emphasized utilizing technology and new media, including Facebook and creating a website. Girifna communicates through on-line chats, emails, and skype meetings. Girifna has authored poems, songs, music videos, advertisements, audio interviews and a newsletter to spread its message and educate the general public beyond the confines of Khartoum, or even Sudan to a much larger global audience, including the Sudanese diaspora.

Girifna Activities

Girifna was created as a grassroots movement to take a message of peace and justice to the streets. Leading up to the national election, Girifna distributed leaflets challenging the NCP in market places, universities, schools, and on public transportation. Girifna also engaged in “mukhatabat” or “street talks” in the market place in colloquial Arabic to reach Sudanese citizens of all backgrounds. Girifna activities have reached the Sudanese cities of Madani, Algadarif, Al Jazeera, Atbara, Al Obied, Meroe, Dongola and Nyala, and have addressed such issues as corruption, economic disparity and poverty, the limitation of political freedoms, and emphasized citizen participation through voter registration and voter education.

Girifna has also been working to publish a free newspaper (Katamat), but is in need of funding to proceed with finalizing and implementing these media projects.

This past year, Girifna held a numerous peaceful events and demonstrations in various regions of Sudan. However, these activities are constantly challenged by a brutal dictatorship that continues to harass and persecute Girifna members. Despite this brutality, the number of Sudanese joining the Girifna movement is steadily growing. Girifna continues to educate Sudanese youth and the general public on their rights, and the methodologies of non-violent resistance movements, as it strategizes on the future of Sudan.

Girifna activities will not stop until freedom, justice, equality, and democracy are actualized in Sudan.
