July 6 2010, Khartoum, Sudan

On the morning of July 6, 2010 three activists were arrested; Hassan Ishag, Azzi Eldine Al-anssari and Mohammed Khiri. They were charged with the following articles of the Sudanese criminal code: article 63 (call for a violent opposition to the state) and article 69 (breach of public safety).  The lawyers for the three activists had reached the final stage of the bail procedures which required one last approval. This was interrupted by the arrival of three members of the National Security Service armed with machine guns. They were riding a Toyota Hilux with plate number: 29774خ2 . The security officers abducted the three activist to an unknown location. They told the police that this matter is in their hands and does not involve the police. And upon an inquiry brought about by the lawyers, they were told that these are instruction coming from a higher authority.

The arrest came while the members were distributing the first edition of the girifna magazine. This took place in Market 6 in Khartoum. The police arrested the three activists due to a request by members of the National Security Service. On the night of the arrest (July 5, 2010) a few members of the Sudan security force removed the activists form their holding cell. They took them to an unknown house where they beat them, threatened them and terrorized them. After that they took them back to the holding cell that same night. The three activists’ houses were also searched. It is noted that the police force refused visits to the three activists on that night of July 5th.

  1. Grifna group is one of the powerful, dedicated and courageous groups I ever heard of after “Shammasha” group that Initiated patriotic demonstrations in early 1980′s until they brought down the former dictator Gaafer Nimiri. We hope that all could support Grifna group and all those struggling against Al-bashir and his fascists, fundamentalist regime the “NCP” which was killed millions from Darfur to South and still waging the the genocidal war against it’s own people in Darfur. Well done Grifna and long live for all the oppose rs of the criminals of the NCP. It is time for change and the crucial accountability against the killers..
